I have been in the gaming hobby for seven years now ever since I ordered my first batch of games with Chaos in the Old World in 2009. This has been an amazing experience for me and I have grown to love so much about this hobby. I remember that my very first exposure to the hobby was with Vikings; a board game I bought my girlfriend (now wife) for her birthday since she loved to talk about it. After playing it for the first time I was hooked and made my first board game order the very next week. Since than my collection has grown to over two hundred board games and I host a game night every week at my home. I truly love this hobby and couldn't imagine my life without the fond memories, experiences and friends I have made through it.

Last year I decided to make a top 50 board game list since everyone seemed to be doing it and I had a blast trying to sort through my collection to find my favorite games. I have decided to continue with this list only this year I am expanding the list to included my top 100 favorite board games. Now I know I should have posted this list in January since I made it the last week of 2015 but the Ripper is lazy some times. So after sitting on my shelf for two months, I have finally gotten to the task of publishing my top 100 games of all time, 2015 edition. I have compared this list to my first list and will include the statistics for games that appear on both list. I hope to continue to make this list every year and hope that you enjoy my 90-81.

Case Study: Sushi Go

A case study is the initial thoughts the Board Game Ripper has on a particular board game after only a few plays. This is just my initial impressions and are subject to change  after I feel I have played enough sessions of the game to give it a proper review.

Lately I have been going to a local game night hosted at the Library every Saturday in hopes of increasing my presence among the community and enjoying the chance to play games that I would never experience otherwise. I really have come to enjoy the people of this group and have discovered several games that I had passed on during their initial release that are amazing. This has really been a wonderful experience for me and has become a highlight of the week. Unfortunately, I have also discover some games through this group whose first impression was exactly why I avoided them in the first place. Sushi Go is one such example.

I am not a light gamer and it takes a lot for a filler game to impress me. Don't get me wrong, I do have a small collection of filler games but the vast majority of them are just not worth the time. I would rather play a full game with interesting choices and engaging game play that waste an hour playing several fillers that are quick to play but lacking in any depth. Sushi Go is a light drafting game that mirrors any other drafting game you may have seen taking only three rounds to play. During each round, players are dealt a certain number of cards depending on player count. The game than follows normal drafting rules as such: you select a card, play it face down in front of you, reveal it and than pass the remaining cards to the next player. After you have been passed the last single card of the round and played it, the round will end and you will score what is in front of you.

Biggest Surprises of 2015

Biggest Surprises of 2015

January and February has sprung itself upon us and another great year of gaming has passed. It is time to look back on what a great year 2015 was for the gaming community. 2015 was a great year for the Board Game Ripper, and I saw a massive expansion in my collection. In fact, there are still games I got this year that haven't seen the table and this is the first year that my collection has grown faster than I can keep up with. While there were some large disappointments; overall the year was fantastic and there were quite a few great games this year. With that in mind, I would like to look back over the year and give you my biggest surprises for 2015 which also happens to serve as the best games of the year.
